CEO Advisor Institute Mobile Application

The OppenheimerFunds CEO Advisor Institute app provides financial advisors access to a multimedia library of content and interactive tools on constructing, managing, and growing a professional practice and a high-performance team. My role in this project was Creative Director, UX/UI designer, and interaction designer.

Sketches, Concepts, and UX Challenges

Finding the balance between tools, content, and usability was a massive challenge because this is a "kitchen sink" type of app. There's user-generated content such as client lists, assessment quiz scores, and goals for your practice. Additionally, there are complicated, content-rich sections with tool-kits and video series. Stakeholders were adamant about the organization of the program so we needed to keep things as simple as possible without cutting any features. We settled on a spoke-and-hub approach that let the dashboard serve as the nerve center of the app. It provides a central location for user-generated content, plus easy access to the educational programs. These are early sketches of the dashboard concept.

UI and Creative Decisions

The rapid timelines and limited color palette of the brand required me to take a minimal approach to the look and feel of this app. I blurred and faded the title screen image into the background to add depth and texture. OppenheimerFund's kiwi-green brand color can be overwhelming if used too heavily. It also presents accessibility issues since it does not meet legibility standards when displayed on white. Finding the right balance of color and font size was integral to drawing users' attention to certain features and labels without cluttering the page or impacting usability.

Interaction and Animation

I created an animation of the "Welcome" flow that a new user would see during their first use of the app. This set the tone, personality, and style that we intended the app to have. It also provided animation guidance for several core elements of the app such as the dashboard and the diagnostic quiz score.

About Me

I am a Digital Creative Director of an award-winning product design and development team at OppenheimerFunds. I have nearly 20 years of experience leading the UX/UI design of websites, mobile applications, online tools, and campaigns. I lead and take part in all aspects of the product design cycle. I run brainstorming and whiteboard sessions with business partners to help prioritize features, functionalities, and determine goals for digital experiences. I also serve dual roles as "player" and "coach". I provide direction and support to my team, and for select projects, I create hands-on assets including sketches, wireframes, clickable prototypes, high-fidelity visual designs, and interaction designs.

Previously, I have worked as a Digital Creative Director at The Dr. Oz Show, and as a designer/director for various other brands including The Food Network, Saveur, Popular Science, Field & Stream, Parenting, Barnes & Noble, and more.
